Water Cremation – The Gentle Way to end life’s journey.

For most of us, when it comes to the end of our lives, there are two options: either burial or cremation by flame.

Now families have a third option, a Water Cremation, the Gentle Way.

To learn about the advantages of Water Cremation, we spoke with Kim Lunt from Compassionate Funerals in Brendale.

Why are so many people choosing Water Cremation?

“Many people prefer water to flame. Families find comfort in the water-based process, viewing it as a ‘softer’ and a more eco-friendly goodbye.”

When given the choice, do most people choose cremation by water or flame?

Water Cremation is becoming increasingly more popular as awareness of this third option grows.

Is Water Cremation expensive?

Water Cremation itself is slightly more expensive than flame however, a coffin is not used in the Water Cremation process so the family is saving on the cost of a coffin.

How does Water Cremation work?

A stainless-steel compartment, containing only warm water (84 degrees, not boiling) and Lye (which is in soap) along with a Gentle rocking motion allows the body to break down over a few hours to just bones, the same result as with flame but with water.

These are then processed and returned as flour-like powder. We call these “remains” rather than ashes which comes from fire. The remains are then returned to the family, who can scatter or keep them.

Where does the water go?

The Gentle Way machine is the only machine in the world with its very own filtration system attached. After the cremation, the water is processed, filtered and returned to a clean, natural state. The water is then taken off site by contractors and returned to the earth by council systems.

Where do I find out more about arranging a Water Cremation?

The best way to learn more about Water Cremation is to give us a call or request a consultation with a funeral director, who will answer all your questions and provide a cost based on exactly what you want.
